District 9 Basketball Championships:

The championship tournament season for District 9 basketball has begun.

Tuesday night, the Lady Chucks of Punxsutawney claimed the girls Class 5-A District 9 championship with a convincing 68-20 victory over DuBois. Natalie Burkett led the scoring for Punxsy with 18 points, and the Lady Chucks claimed their 17th district title in history, and their ninth in the past 11 years. Next for 24-and-1 Punxsutawney is a sub-regional playoff against District 10’s Cathedral Prep next Wednesday.

In Class 3-A girls action tonight, Moniteau will face Westinghouse.

In D9 Class 2-A boys matchups later today, Brockway will play at Clarion.

In Class 1-A, Otto-Eldred plays at Cameron County, Oswayo Valley will travel to North Clarion, and Johnsonburg hosts Northern Potter.

Several more District 9 tournament games will be played on Friday.

District 9 2-A Wrestling Tournament:

The District 9 2-A individual wrestling tournament will be held at Penn West Clarion’s Tippin Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

Full-squad workouts continue this week for the Pittsburgh Pirates at their Spring Training camp in Bradenton, Florida. The Bucs’ first Spring Training game is coming up Saturday afternoon against Baltimore.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins are eight days away from returning to regular season action following the Winter Olympics. On Thursday, February 26th, the Pens will host the New Jersey Devils. Listen for the start of the pregame show at 6pm on Connect FM. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.
