DUBOIS – Youth Boxers from both the DuBois and Pittsburgh areas came together at the WPAL gym in DuBois to train.
Local team 814, headed by Coach Randolph Strckland, and Pittsburgh team 412, coached by Jim Hoy, have been inseparable since playing basketball in their school days.
Since then, the two coaches have been acting as role models for their kids while keeping their friendship together.
“We’re not getting that star quarterback, we’re not getting that great point guard, the great center fielder, we’re getting those kids that are being picked on, bullied,” stated Coach Strickland. “Those are the kinds of kids that we get, and those are the kids that we turn into stars.”
Many of the students who were training Friday night have participated in national and world championships, and are even practicing for olympic training.
