TREASURE LAKE – Over 20 people heard from Penelec engineers Tuesday about power concerns in the DuBois area and improving electric reliability.
Engineers say trees account for 50 to 70 percent of outages in the area, and some existing equipment is more than 60 years old.
To address these issues, Penelec is investing $37.5 million in infrastructure improvements aimed at improving reliability and making power restoration easier and faster.
Current work in Treasure Lake includes installing devices to better identify the causes of outages and help determine how many customers are affected.
For the Kiwanis Trail and Reynoldsville areas, crews plan to relocate existing power lines from a densely wooded area to along Route 119, making the lines more accessible and reducing restoration times.
Penelec says the projects should be done in 2027 and may not eliminate all outages, but they are expected to help crews restore power faster and improve reliability for customers.
