District 9 High School Football: Week 5

Brookville 49, Bradford 27 – Thursday – First win of the year for the Raiders

FRIDAY:

Central Clarion 30, Brockway 0 – The Rovers were held to just 74 yards of offense by the Wildcats’ defense.

DuBois 42, St. Marys 13 – Four touchdown passes by Trey Wingard in the first half led the Beavers. Jaxson Hanzely caught three of the TD throws for DuBois.

Punxsutawney 22, Karns City 19 – The Chucks trailed 19-0 at halftime, but came back to win and improve to a 5-0 season record.

Huntingdon 28, Clearfield 27

Claysburg-Kimmel 46, Curwensville 20

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense forced five turnovers, recorded five sacks, and mounted two goal-line stands Sunday, and Pittsburgh beat the New England Patriots, 21-14. The Steelers improved to a 2-and-1 season record with the win.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates finished their season’s home schedule with a pair of bright notes – two shutout wins Saturday and Sunday. The Bucs downed the Oakland As yesterday, 11-0. After an off day today, the Pirates embark on their final six games of the season. The Bucs face the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40. Listen for the Pirates pregame show at 6:15 tomorrow evening on Connect FM.

Altoona Curve:

The season came to a close for the Double-A affiliate of the Pirates, the Altoona Curve, on Friday night. Altoona lost game three of the Eastern League Division playoff series to Erie, 3-1.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins begin their preseason schedule tonight in Canada. Pittsburgh faces off with Montreal at 7pm. The regular season for the Penguins begins in two weeks – on October 7th.
