Man accused of hitting 86-year-old mother with ashtray on Christmas Eve

Young Township, PA – A Punxsy man is being charged after allegedly throwing a glass ashtray at his 86-year-old mother on Christmas Eve.

Police were originally called to the home on South Main Street Extension in Young Township just before 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, as EMS were responding to a woman with lacerations on her head from an unknown object.

When police arrived, the 86-year-old victim told them that her son had thrown an ashtray at her, which cut her head.

62-year-old Rodney Silvis from Punxsutawney will face felony charges of aggravated assault, plus misdemeanors of simple assault, endangering the welfare of a care-dependent person, and harassment.

Unable to post $35,000 bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, Jan. 4.
