Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates smacked 16 hits Thursday on their way to a 13-1 win over the Miami Marlins. .

The Pirates are back home for their next six games. The Bucs open a three-game weekend series with the Boston Red Sox tonight. The pregame show starts at 6:15, and the first pitch this evening will be at 6:40. Pirates baseball comes your way live on Connect FM.

Altoona Curve:

On Thursday, the Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve lost their third straight game, and have now come up short in five of their last six. The Curve fell, 4-2, to Akron last night. The fourth game of the Curve and Rubber Ducks series at PNG Field in Altoona will start at 6 tonight.

District 9 High School Football:

Practices have continued this week for District 9 high school football teams throughout the Tri-County area. The regular season game schedule starts two weeks from tonight. On Friday, August 28th. Brockway will play at Keystone; Brookville travels to Union-AC Valley; Punxsutawney will host Bradford; Clearfield plays at Bellwood-Antis; Curwensville hosts Northern Bedford; and Ridgway has a game at St. Marys. Then on Saturday, the 29th, the DuBois Beavers open their season at Erie.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The preseason schedule started on a winning note for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh upended the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium last night, 28-9. Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said the only negative of the game was the number of penalties. Pittsburgh was called 11 times for 143 negative yards. Week two of the Steelers’ preseason schedule will bring the New York Jets to the Burgh next Friday.
