JOHNSTOWN – Former City of DuBois Manager John “Herm” Suplizio, who was accused of stealing around $1.5 million dollars from the municipality, has pleaded guilty to counts 5 and 8 of the indictment.
During a change of plea hearing Thursday morning, Suplizio waived his right to a jury trial and accepted a plea agreement, pleading guilty to counts 5 and 8 of the indictment.
Count 5 states that in 2021, Suplizio embezzled, stole, or obtained and fraud misapplied $5,000 or more. Count 8 included a fraudulent financial transaction of $28,000 dollars.
As part of the plea agreement, Suplizio admitted responsibility for the theft and agreed to pay $500,000 in restitution, which will be covered through funds previously frozen or seized by the federal government.
Although the charges each carry maximum penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and mandatory restitution, both sides agreed to recommend a sentence of 27 months in prison, no fine, and mandatory restitution.
A sentencing hearing will be held on Monday November 23rd at 10:30am in Johnstown
Suplizio originally pleaded not guilty for allegedly stealing around $1.5 million dollars in city funds between 2008 and 2022.
