BROCKWAY – The Brockway School Board has approved the 2026-2027 budget, increasing taxes to cover needed expenses.

Superintendent Brian Mulhollan told us the budget has an eight percent increase this year with special education mandates, cyber charter expenses, and rising technology costs leading to an over two million dollar deficit.

While the board has tried to make cuts, ultimately they had to raise taxes

We’ve eliminated some positions here at the school through attrition to try and obviously be conscientious,“ explained Superintendent Mulhollan. “Sometimes unfortunately, there are no other options that you have really available to you when you’ve exhausted everything else.”

Going up 1.12 mills in Jefferson County and 0.02 mills in Elk County, board members say they did not want to raise taxes, however they needed more funding for costly programs and state budget shortfalls.
