UNDATED – The first proposal for Pennsylvania’s next state budget was unveiled last week, calling for an increase in spending.

The plan would boost state spending by $2.72 billion dollars over last year’s budget. Similar to last year, the administration proposes increases in revenue by legalizing marijuana, taxing skill games, and raising the minimum wage, in addition to using money from the state’s Rainy Day Fund.

State Representative MIke Armanini told us that the commonwealth is overspending and operating beyond its means.

It’s time you got to tighten the purse strings,” explained Representative Armanini. “You know, you have to make sure where money is going to is being used correctly, and it’s not being abused. “

The House and Senate will now begin budget hearings to take a closer look at the proposed budget, with House hearings beginning Monday February 23rd.
