District 9 / PIAA Football Playoffs

Class 3A: Friday night, the District 9 champion Brockway Rovers fell to Penn Cambria, the District 6 champs, 27-0, at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway. The Rovers’ football season comes to a close with a record of 7-and-5.

Class 4A: The Punxsutawney Chucks were knocked out of the PIAA football playoffs by Oil City, the District 10 champs, by a score of 47-14. The Chucks turned the ball over six times. Punxsy’s season finishes with a 10-and-2 record.

Class 2A: District 9 Class 2A champion Karns City scored the first touchdown of the game, but couldn’t maintain the lead. The Gremlins lost to the champs of District 10, Farrell, 48-20. Karns City’s football season ends at 9-and-3.

Class 1A: District 9 crowned its Class 1A champion Friday night in Kane. Port Allegany continued its winning ways and outscored Redbank Valley, 41-19. Aiden Bliss had another monster game for the Gators with 285 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Port Allegany advances to the Quarterfinal round of the PIAA playoffs and will play District 10 champion Greenville at Corry High School on Friday night.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins split their two-game series against Nashville in Sweden over the weekend. Friday, the Predators downed the Pens in overtime, 2-1. But Pittsburgh bounced back Sunday and notched a 4-0 shutout over Nashville.

The Penguins are returning home. Their next game will be against the Minnesota Wild at 7pm on Friday. The Pens pregame show begins at 6pm on Connect FM.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers smacked division-rival Cincinnati, 34-12. The Steelers maintained their first place standing in the AFC North Division by improving their season record to 6-and-4. Next Sunday, Pittsburgh plays the Bears in Chicago.
