District 9 / PIAA Football Playoffs

Class 5A Subregional: Tonight, the DuBois Beavers will take their shot at the Districts 6, 8, and 9 subregional championship. DuBois will battle Hollidaysburg on the Golden Tigers’ home field at 7 this evening.

Class 4A Subregional: Clearfield and Punxsutawney clash tonight to settle the subregional championship for Districts 8 and 9. The Bison and Chucks will meet on Brockway’s Frank Varischetti Field at 7pm.

Class 3A: The District 9 champion Brockway Rovers get this weekend off. But the 7-and-4 Rovers will soon learn who their opponent will be next week in the first round of the PIAA football playoffs. Brockway will take on the District 6 champs, either Penn Cambria or Huntingdon.

PIAA Soccer Playoffs:

Class 3A Girls – The DuBois Lady Beavers have advanced into the Quarterfinal round and will go up against Fox Chapel at Noon on Saturday.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins utilized their league-leading power play to outscore the Washington Capitals last night at PPG Paints Arena, 5-3 .

The Penguins face the Devils in New Jersey tomorrow. Tune in for the Pens-Devils pregame show on Connect FM at 11:30 Saturday morning. The opening face-off is scheduled for 12:30pm.

College Football: Saturday

#2 Indiana (9-0) at Penn State (3-5), 12 Noon Kickoff

IUP (6-2) at Clarion-Penn West (6-3), 12 Noon Kickoff

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The Pittsburgh Steelers are perched atop the AFC North Division standings with a 5-and-3 record. The Steelers travel to LA to take on the 6-and-3 Chargers in the Sunday Night Football game this week. Kickoff time is set for 8:20pm.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes is one of three finalists for the National League Cy Young Award, as voted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Skenes will try to become the third Bucs pitcher in history to win a Cy Young, joining Vern Law who did it in 1960, and Doug Drabek who won the award in 1990.
