District 10 Little League Softball and Baseball All-Star Playoffs:
The DuBois Little League Major softball all-stars will be facing St. Marys-Fox Township in DuBois this evening. The winners bracket game will be played at Heindl Field. Tune in for all the live action at 6pm on Sunny 106. The District 10 Little League Junior All-Star baseball tournament begins on Tuesday, and the Major All-Star baseball tournament gets underway on Thursday.
District 9 Baseball:
On Sunday, five District 9 high school baseball players participated in the Second Annual Pennsylvania Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game in State College. The East upended the West, 14-9. Noah Farrell and Trey Wingard of DuBois, Carter Himes of DuBois Central Catholic, and Maddox Hetrick and Nevin Day of Punxsutawney played for the West team.
Pittsburgh Pirates:
The Pittsburgh Pirates escaped from Colorado with one win over the Rockies. The Bucs beat Colorado, 8-6, in the three-game finale’ on Sunday.
The Bucs are off today. The Pirates will host Seattle for three games starting Tuesday evening. The Bucs-Mariners pregame show tomorrow night on Connect FM starts at 6:15. The first pitch of Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 6:40.
Altoona Curve:
The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve managed a series split with the Akron Rubber Ducks. While the Curve lost to Akron, 4-3, on Sunday; Altoona beat the Rubber Ducks on Friday, 3-2; and 3-1 on Saturday. Altoona’s next Eastern League series is home against Reading starting Tuesday night at 6.
The Frank Varischetti All-Star Football Game:
This Friday night, the 11th annual Frank Varischetti All-Star Football Game will be played in Brockway. The North team will include players from Brockway, DuBois, Punxsutawney, Ridgway, and St. Marys high schools. A few Brookville Raiders will participate with the South team. These all-stars are 2026 graduates representing 19 District 9 high school football programs. Prior to kickoff, two dozen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to select players. The site of the game is Brockway’s Frank Varischetti Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7pm on Friday.
