District 9 / PIAA Football Playoffs

Class 5A Subregional: Friday night, the DuBois Beavers will take their shot at the Districts 6, 8, and 9 subregional championship. DuBois will face Hollidaysburg on the Golden Tigers’ home field at 7pm Friday.

Class 4A Subregional: Clearfield shut out Obama Academy last Friday to set up a Clearfield–Punxsutawney clash to settle the subregional championship for Districts 8 and 9. The Bison and Chucks will meet on Brockway’s Frank Varischetti Field tomorrow night at 7m.

Class 3A: The Brockway Rovers, winners of their second consecutive District 9 football championship last weekend, will get this weekend off. The 7-and-4 Rovers get that break before heading into the first round of the PIAA football playoffs to take on the District 6 champs, either Penn Cambria or Huntingdon.

PIAA Soccer Playoffs:

Class 3A Girls – DuBois beat District 7’s Moon on Tuesday, 4-2. The Lady Beavers advance to the Quarterfinal round and will take on Fox Chapel at Noon on Saturday.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have returned from their four-game road trip, and will face off with the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena tonight.

Tune in for the Pens-Caps pregame show on Connect FM at 6:30 this evening. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.

College Football: Saturday

#2 Indiana (9-0) at Penn State (3-5), 12 Noon Kickoff

IUP (6-2) at Clarion-Penn West (6-3), 12 Noon Kickoff

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The Pittsburgh Steelers are perched atop the AFC North Division standings with a 5-and-3 record. The Steelers travel to LA to take on the 6-and-3 Chargers in the Sunday Night Football game this week. Kickoff time is set for 8:20pm.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes was named as one of three finalists for the National League Cy Young Award, as voted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Skenes will try to become the third Bucs pitcher in history to win a Cy Young, joining Vern Law who did it in 1960, and Doug Drabek who won the award in 1990.
