Local Sports Update – Friday, 8/22

District 9 High School Football:

This is it … the 2025 season for District 9 high school football begins tonight. In our Tri-County area this evening, Brookville will host Keystone, Clearfield is hosting Bellwood-Antis, Curwensville travels to Meyersdale, Karns City will visit St. Marys, and Ridgway plays at Redbank Valley. On Saturday, there will be two more games involving District 9 teams. The Brockway Rovers will take on the Chucks in Punxsutawney at 6pm. Listen to live coverage of Rovers football on Sunny 106, and watch at Tri County dot TV. Also, the DuBois Beavers host General McLane at Mansell Stadium Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The Pittsburgh Steelers closed out their preseason game schedule with a 19-10 win over the Carolina Panthers last night. Pittsburgh’s first round draft pick Derrick Harmon suffered a knee sprain in the first half of the game. Head Coach Mike Tomlin said Harmon’s injury is being evaluated. The Steelers begin regular season play on the road on Sunday, September 7th. The New York Jets will be the Steelers’ first opponent.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates are getting a weekend series visit by the Colorado Rockies.

The Bucs and Rockies square off for three games starting tonight. Listen for the Pirates pregame show starts at 6:15 on Connect FM. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve got doubled up by Reading last night, 8-4. The Curve will take on the Fightin’ Phils in game four of the series at PNG Field in Altoona tonight at 6pm.
