District 9 High School Football:
The start of the 2025 District 9 High School Football season is just one week away. Many Tri-County area teams have scrimmage games tomorrow, but the first regular season games will be played on Friday, August 22nd and Saturday, August 23rd. Week one match-ups include Brookville hosting Keystone, Clearfield will play host to Bellwood-Antis, Curwensville travels to Meyersdale, Karns City will be at St. Marys, and Ridgway goes to Redbank Valley. There will be two season-opening games on Saturday, the 23rd: Brockway visits Punxsutawney (on Sunny 106), and General McLane will take on the DuBois Beavers at Mansell Stadium.
Pittsburgh Pirates:
The struggling Pittsburgh Pirates have lost five straight games. The Bucs are in Chicago for a three-game weekend series against the Cubs.
This afternoon, you can tune in for the Pirates pregame show at 1:55 on Connect FM. The first pitch of the Bucs-Cubbies game is scheduled for 2:20.
Altoona Curve:
The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve won big over Richmond, 6-1, last night in game three of a six-game series in Virginia. The Curve and Flying Squirrels are scheduled to play the fourth game of the series tonight at 6:35.
Pittsburgh Steelers:
Saturday evening, the Pittsburgh Steelers will play their second preseason game. Pittsburgh will host the Tampa Bay Bucaneers at Acrisure Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed yesterday that “the same collection of guys {23 players} that were held out the last time will be held out this time.”
