District 9 Baseball and Softball:

PIAA Baseball Playoffs –

PIAA baseball playoffs begin on Monday. DuBois, DuBois Central Catholic, Clarion, Redbank Valley, and Punxsutawney will be the District 9 teams involved. DuBois will play Bethel Park of the WPIAL in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

Softball Playoffs –

Today – St. Marys faces Northwestern for the Class 3A, Districts 9 and 10 subregional championship. The winning team will advance into the PIAA playoffs next week.

PIAA softball playoffs also begin on Monday. DuBois Central Catholic, Cranberry, and Punxsutawney will be the District 9 teams participating. DCC will be playing the District 6 runner-up in the first round of the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates thumped the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday, 10-1. That makes it six wins out of the last nine games for the Bucs.

The Pirates are off today. They’ll play a three-game weekend series in San Diego. The first pitch of the Bucs-Padres game Friday night is set for 9:40. Listen for the pregame show on Connect FM tomorrow evening at 9:15.

Altoona Curve:

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve had their game with the Portland Sea Dogs postponed last night due to rain. Altoona and Portland will play a doubleheader, games two and three of their Eastern League series, later today at PNG Field starting at 5pm.
