District 9 Baseball and Softball:

THURSDAY BASEBALL SCOREBOARD

Punxsutawney 3, Moniteau 1 – Maddox Hetrick led the Punxsy offense with three hits and a run batted in.

Elk County Catholic 16, Smethport 4

 

THURSDAY SOFTBALL SCOREBOARD

Bellefonte 5, DuBois 3

DuBois Central Catholic 10, Kane 0 – Rylee Kulbatsky pitched her second consecutive no-hitter. She walked only one, and struck out 14. At the plate, Kulbatsky had three hits and three RBI.

Punxsutawney 11, Indiana 1 – Sara Gotwald and Avary Powell combined for six hits, seven runs batted in, and four runs scored for the Lady Chucks.

Curwensville 1, Glendale 0 / Curwensville 12, Glendale 0 – In game one of the double-header, Addison Siple pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 13. In the second game, Kylah Wos tossed a five-hit shutout and struck out nine.

 

Penn State DuBois Baseball and Softball:

The baseball and softball Small College World Series for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association begin in DuBois on Monday.

The Penn State DuBois baseball team heads into the series as the number two seed. Penn State DuBois will play their first game at Showers Field Monday afternoon, and their first world series opponent will be either Penn State Schuylkill, or Miami Middletown.

The Penn State DuBois softball team is the number three seed in next week’s Small College World Series. Penn State DuBois is scheduled to face Bay Path University on Monday at Heindl Field.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates relieved Derek Shelton of his managerial duties yesterday. Bench coach Don Kelly has been named the new Bucs manager. Pittsburgh has had a terrible start to the season posting a record of 12-and-26, losing seven straight, and dropping 10 of their last 11 games.

With a new manager in place tonight, the Pirates host Atlanta for the start of a three-game weekend series. Tonight’s first pitch for the Bucs and Braves is scheduled for 6:40. Listen for the pregame show on Connect FM at 6:15.

 

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve lost in Erie last night, 4-3. Game four of the Curve-Sea Wolves series is scheduled for a start at 6:05 this evening.
