CLEARFIELD – A 14 year-old accused of shooting and killing a 12 year-old girl will no longer be tried as an adult.

On Thursday, Judge Frederick Ammerman granted the defense team’s motion for the case to be moved to juvenile court.

Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers, tells us that he is currently appealing that decision

“There is a specific statute that governs the either certification or decertification of a case between juvenile and adult court, and it specifically lists factors that in this case,” explained DA Sayers.  “The defense has the burden to prove by proponent the evidence they have to prove why it would be in the public interest to decertify the case, and treat it as a juvenile and Judge Ammerman and his decision Determined that the defense had met their burden and granted that decertification. The Commonwealth believes that the defense had not met their burden and that the judge incorrectly determined each of the factors, therefore asking the superior court to review it.”

14 year-old Aaron Klingensmith is accused of using his father’s gun to shoot and kill a 12 year-old girl in late April 2024.
