PUNXSUTAWNEY – A 60-year-old Jefferson County man is facing theft and “writing bad checks” charges after failing to pay for more than $800 worth of groceries.

According to Punxsutawney Borough Police, Robert Powers of Reynoldsville visited a grocery store in Punxsy in November, and wrote a check to the store in the amount of $808.23. The store manager reported that the check was returned by the bank the next day due to insufficient funds. A notification was sent to Powers by certified mail, but that letter was returned to sender.

A preliminary hearing for Powers has been scheduled for February 21st.
