CLEARFIELD – The top two positions at the Clearfield County Jail are now open.

On Friday, the Clearfield County Commissioners confirmed that the employment of Warden David Gallagher was terminated a day earlier. There had been several unofficial reports on Thursday that Gallagher had been fired and was escorted from the building. According to the Clearfield County website, both the warden and deputy warden positions at the jail are currently open. The jail’s former deputy warden, Eric Bush, officially resigned on October 28th.

The commissioners have noted that current Deputy Warden Susan McQuillen has been named Acting Warden of the Clearfield County Jail.

Over the past five months there has been a lot of scrutiny of the jail’s leaders. In July, three women inmates overdosed on contraband drugs, and one of them died. That woman’s family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clearfield County, Gallagher, and several corrections officers at the jail.

There was speculation about Gallagher’s status when he did not attend the most recent meeting of the county’s Prison Board in November.

Gallagher became the jail’s warden in September 2022. He came into the position with prior experience working in correctional facilities in Virginia and in a federal prison.
