CLEARFIELD COUNTY – The Clearfield County Commissioners say that the common cold led to a hunger strike at the Moshannon Valley Detention Center last week.

Staff say on Thursday April 16th an inmate got sick while eating lunch. The infirmary then diagnosed the inmate with influenza, he was then quarantined and released.

However, during this time between 50 and 70 inmates refused to eat their evening meal, believing the food caused the illness.

Staff report that all meals are sampled before being given to detainees and that all meals were eaten Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with no complaints.
