CLEARFIELD – As the holidays draw near, the Highway Safety Network is working to remind you of the dangers of impaired driving, especially at this time of year.

According to AAA nearly 72 million Americans will be on the roadways as Thanksgiving approaches. With the record number of travelers, you are being urged to practice safe driving habits.

We heard from Highway Safety Network representative Josh Woods, who said that it is important to be wary when diving, most of all this Wednesday.

“The Wednesday before Thanksgiving statistically we have a lot of impaired driving crashes with the college age group,“ explained Woods. “They call it Blackout Wednesday. So the more education we can get out there to the public about how dangerous it is, the better.”

In an effort to teach young drivers the dangers of impaired driving, PennDOT and the HSN hosted an event at the Clearfield Commonwealth University using hands-on activities to showcase a variety of driving dangers.

In the end, you are urged to drive safe, drive sober, and practice safe driving habits.
