CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners confirmed Friday that the employment of Jail Warden David Gallagher was terminated a day earlier. There had been several unofficial reports that Gallagher was fired on Thursday and was escorted from the building.
According to the Clearfield County website, both the warden and deputy warden positions are open. The jail’s former deputy warden, Eric Bush, officially resigned on October 28th.
The commissioners noted that current Deputy Warden Susan McQuillen has been named Acting Warden of the Clearfield County Jail.
There has been a lot of scrutiny and criticism of the jail’s leadership since July when a woman inmate overdosed on contraband drugs and died. That woman’s family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clearfield County, Gallagher, and several corrections officers at the jail. Gallagher did not attend the most recent meeting of the county’s Prison Board in November.
Gallagher became the jail’s warden in September 2022 and has experience working in correctional facilities in Virginia and in a federal prison.
