DUBOIS – As the City of DuBois and Sandy Township chart their unified future, a recent housing analysis shows a mixed picture.
A study done by Adam Hartwig with Alliance for Nonprofit Resources showed the area’s population is slowly aging and declining, while more working-class residents live in nearby towns. In addition, rental vacancies are on the rise.
However the city does have some appeals including low crime rate, strong retail, and abundance of parks and trails.
“I think it’s extremely important for the city, current and then consolidated, to shout it from the rooftops about our assets,“ explained Hartwig
Looking forward, new residents could be attracted through economic growth, stronger code enforcement, addressing blight, and eliminating paid parking. Those initiatives could be funded through a mix of grants, city resources, and private investment.
