DUBOIS – A recent mosquito sample collected in DuBois has reportedly tested positive for West Nile Virus.
The Centre County Mosquito Disease Control Program reported the positive discovery. West Nile Virus can be transferred to humans by just a single mosquito bite.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the virus can cause fever, headaches, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, or rashes. Severe cases can send you to the hospital, affect your nervous system, or even cause death.
The best way for you and your loved ones to avoid exposure is to prevent mosquito bites. In addition to using repellants, you can clear outdoor areas of stagnant water, from something as small as a flower pot to a swimming pool.
