Area Shelter in Need

DUBOIS – A local homeless shelter needs your help.

Over the past 20 years, Haven House Shelter has provided emergency shelter, short-term housing, food, and services to those in need from Elk, Jefferson, and Clearfield Counties.

This Shelter, located in DuBois, houses and feeds those in need for an average of 30 days finding employment and services to get them back on their feet in a comfortable and homey location.

Kelli Williams, who has been with the shelter for 18 years, tells us that operating costs are at an all time high, and now the shelter is on the brink of closure.

“We have no government funding, since COVID, our donations have gone down,” explained Williams. “It’s pretty grim. We just need everybody to care about the people out there that we can help.”

It takes around $80,000 dollars a year to meet operational costs. In their history, the Haven House Shelter has provided 22,000 nights of lodging and over 44,000 meals for over 800 people, including children, in need.

They have a go fund me set up in hopes of staying in operation for a few more months.
