CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield County man could serve up to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to stealing copper from outside the county courthouse.
According to court documents, 57-year-old Robert Litzinger of Clearfield was seen on surveillance video removing grounding electrode conductors from the rear of the courthouse building nearly two years ago. Litzinger allegedly told police that he got paid approximately $20 for the stolen material, but replacing the copper and repairing the damage cost the county more than $1,000.
Charges of flight to avoid apprehension and evading arrest were also filed against Litzinger for leading 10 law enforcement officers on a two hour manhunt and chase in Clearfield in September.
Litzinger was sentenced by Clearfield County Judge Frederic Ammerman on Monday.
