DUBOIS — The Mayor of the City of DuBois, Eddie Walsh, has given a statement on recent events and the current status of the city. Here is the complete statement given by Walsh:
“I am the Mayor of the greatest little city in Pennsylvania. Last weekend, we heard from our solicitor. She said no one from the attorney general’s office has ever contacted the DuBois mayor’s office. No one from the state police for the attorney general’s office has ever contacted me to ask any questions or to make a statement. City Council and I stand behind our solicitor’s comments 100%.
We will continue to lead the City of DuBois into the future. Just look around this great community we have built. Our City Memorial Park, swimming pool, free concerts and outstanding baseball fields are by far better than any other community our size. The baseball parks alone pump thousands upon thousands of dollars into the local economy. We have agreements for state and regional play-offs and tournaments for the next five years. All of this has been accomplished with NO tax increases to DuBois property owners for the last 15 years.
I want to assure everyone that DuBois is in good financial shape. DuBois was awarded an $83,883,897 PENNVEST low interest loan. PENNVEST gave us a $4,033,103 grant for water asset upgrades. We also received a $1.2 million grant for park improvements from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. PENNDOT awarded us a $264,528 grant for traffic signal upgrades. This is a partial list. These huge monetary awards are due to our City’s financial stability and oversight by City Council and me.
Anyone who has any questions can give me a call. As the Mayor and leader of this great city, I support our fantastic DuBois City Council. There are times when we agree to disagree, but bottom line is together we get things done for our DuBois residents.”
