Redbank Township, PA – A man accused of causing a fatal crash that killed two people is being arrested, months after the crash.

The deadly crash between a motorcycle and the man’s car had happened in Redbank Township, Clarion County, on Sept. 17. 29-year-old Jhonatan Gonzalez de la Cruz from Providence, Rhode Island, was attempting to pass another vehicle on a solid double line.

He ended up striking a motorcycle that had stopped on Route 28 to make a left hand turn, operated by 36-year-old Douglas Craig from New Bethlehem and with 34-year-old Sarah Stewart from Strattanville as a passenger.

Craig and Stewart suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. They had not been wearing helmets.

Gonzalez de la Cruz was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian with serious injuries. He had not been wearing a seat belt.

Now, nearly four months later, Gonzalez de la Cruz is in the Clarion County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. He was taken into custody on Jan. 4 on charges on assault with seriously bodily injury. His preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 18.
