UNDATED – State Representative Mike Armanini is warning that Pennsylvania needs to increase its electricity generation to avoid future blackouts.

Armanini says that natural gas could provide new electricity generation, while existing coal plants remain vital in keeping the grid reliable.

“We need to generate new electricity,” explained Armanini. “We know natural gas can come on board to where as we could have new generation within two to three years.”

Armanini also says that lawmakers have been warned that the state could face blackouts by 2035 without these measures.
