CLEARFIELD COUNTY – A Kane woman is facing multiple charges after a months-long investigation into a fatal overdose of a Treasure Lake man.
In mid-April police were dispatched to a Treasure Lake home where they discovered 33 year-old Matthew Meholic dead on the bathroom floor.
Authorities were able to recover a cell phone and drug paraphernalia at the home.
Upon investigation police discovered an unknown woman was at the residence the night before.
The woman was able to confirm her presence to police and reconstructed the events of the night prior. She told authorities that she and the victim drove to an address along Route 255 to meet with someone referred to as Sammy G.
When arriving back at the residence, Meholic went into the bathroom and came back out acting sluggish.
The woman left the residence around 6am the next day, she told police when she left Meholic was in the bathroom and she could hear water running.
Police were then able to gain access to the victim’s cell phone and posed as Meholic and made contact with Sammy G.
They were able to confirm that the victim bought $140 worth of drugs the prior night, and set up a new meeting to buy $200 worth of drugs.
Police were then able to meet with Sammy G, later identified as 30 year-old Samantha Gustafson, and take her into custody.
Gustafson then allegedly confessed to police that she sold Meholic heroin that night.
The autopsy results however, showed that the victim died from a fentanyl overdose.
Gustufson is now being held in Clearfield County Jail without bail. She has a preliminary hearing set for September 13th.
