DUBOIS – Big Lots is preparing to close their doors at all locations nationwide, we break down what that means for our area stores.
In a Thursday press release the chain announced that they will be closing all 963 stores and start a “going out of business” sale.
There are two Big Lots stores in our area, located in DuBois and Clearfield.
We spoke to managers at the DuBois location Friday, who told us that they had no idea about the closure. On Saturday, a store closing sign was placed in front of the store.
When speaking to management on Saturday they had no idea when their final day would be and all of this is a part of the chain’s liquidation process.
All of this stems from the retail chain filing for bankruptcy in September, closing 400 stores at the time.
In an attempt to save the company, the chain attempted to sell their remaining assets and business operations to Nexus Capital Management. However that deal is no longer expected to go through.
It is currently unknown how long stores will remain open.
