Local Sports Update – Tuesday, 6/2

PIAA Baseball and Softball Playoffs – Round 1 – MONDAY:

5A Baseball – DuBois 2, Montour (D-7) 1 – It was the first state baseball playoff game win for DuBois since 2014. Beavers pitcher Noah Farrell gave up only one unearned run on five hits, and he struck out 13 Montour batters. On Thursday, DuBois will face the District 7 champs, Upper St. Clair.

1A Baseball – Elk County Catholic 4, Serra Catholic (D-7) 3 – The Crusaders advance into round two of the PIAA playoffs and will next take on the District 6 champions, Claysburg-Kimmel.

5A Softball – North Hills (D-7) 3, DuBois 0

1A Softball – DuBois Central Catholic 5, Juniata Valley (D-6) 4 – 8 innings – DCC’s Reese Pfingstler singled in Lily Sachs, the winning run, in the extra frame. Sachs was 4-for-5 in the game and scored two of the Lady Cardinals’ runs. On Thursday, DCC will play District 7 champ Union-New Castle.

2A Softball – Neshannock (D-7) 14, Brockway 8

4A Softball – Blackhawk (D-7) 12, Punxsutawney 7

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates begin a six-game road trip in Houston tonight. The first pitch of this evening’s contest between the Bucs and Astros is scheduled for 8:10. Don’t miss the Pirates pregame show at 7:45 on Connect FM.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve begin a six-game Eastern League series in New Hampshire tonight. The Curve and Fisher Cats’ game is scheduled to begin at 6:03 this evening.
