District 9 Baseball and Softball:
WEDNESDAY-BASEBALL
Redbank Valley 10, Brockway 2;
The DuBois at Bradford, Brookville at Keystone, Clearfield at St. Marys, and Curwensville at Glendale games were postponed due to the weather conditions.
WEDNESDAY-SOFTBALL
Brockway 11, Redbank Valley 10 – Rheanna Spinda was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Rovers with two doubles, a triple, and two runs batted in.
Punxsutawney 14, Indiana 6 – Sara Gotwald drove in five runs for Punxsy with a home run and a double. Her Lady Chucks teammate, Brinley Hallman also hit a home run and a double and drove in four runs.
The Brookville at Keystone, St. Marys at Clearfield, and Glendale at Curwensville games were postponed. The Elk County Catholic at Johsonburg game was canceled.
Penn State-DuBois Baseball:
The City of DuBois and Penn State-DuBois will be hosting this year’s USCAA Small College Baseball World Series. Following a Sunday night banquet, home run derby, and fireworks; tournament games will begin Monday morning. Penn State-DuBois is seeded fifth among the 10 teams participating. The Lions are scheduled to face the number four seed, US Sports University from Alabama, on Showers Field Monday morning at 10.
DuBois is also hosting the USCAA Small College Softball World Series. Games will be played at Heindl Field all next week.
Pittsburgh Pirates:
The Pittsburgh Pirates grabbed a 1-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. The Bucs conclude their three-game series in Phoenix this afternoon. Listen for the Pirates pregame show at 3:15 today on Connect FM. The first pitch will be at 3:40pm.
Altoona Curve:
The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve gave up 19 runs yesterday, all of them in the first six innings, and they lost 19-4 to the Chesapeake Bay Sox. Game three of the Curve’s six-game series in Maryland is set to begin with the first pitch this evening at 6:35.
