Local Sports Update – Monday, 7/6

District 10 Little League Baseball and Softball All-Star Tournaments:

In the District 10 Little League Majors All-Star baseball tournament, DuBois is in the championship round, and their next game will be on Thursday in DuBois.

The DuBois Minors baseball All-Stars will be in action later today. DuBois will take on Bradford in a losers bracket game.

The DuBois Junior All-Star softball team begins sectional tournament play in Corry on Tuesday.

District 9 High School Baseball:

Post-season honors have continued for the DuBois High School Beavers baseball team. The Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association recently announced its All-State team. There are three DuBois players, from the PIAA Class 5-A runner-up team, earning All-State first team honors. Pitcher Noah Farrell was selected, as well as Trey Wingard at catcher, and Mason Dinkfelt at infielder position. DuBois Central Catholic’s pitcher Carter Himes was a first-team choice, and a second-team pick was DCC infielder Evan Burton in Class 1-A. Rounding out the Tri-County area’s first-team selections was Elk County Catholic’s Matthew Gilmore at Class 1-A pitcher

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates slugged their way to an 11-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. It gave the Bucs a two games to one series win over the Nats.

On Tuesday, the Pirates begin a three-game, home series with the Braves. Listen for tomorrow’s Bucs-Braves pregame show at 6:15. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm Tuesday on Connect FM.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve fell to the Portland Sea Dogs in Maine three times over the weekend. Sunday, Portland blanked the Curve, 10-0. Altoona hosts Richmond for a six game series starting on Tuesday.
