District 9 Baseball and Softball:

THURSDAY-BASEBALL

Bradford 6, Brockway 5;

Clarion 4, Punxsutawney 3;

Clearfield 11, Bishop Guilfoyle 1 – Landon Brady, Brody Ryen, and Matt Rowles each drove in two runs for Clearfield.

Curwensville 11, Harmony 0 – Golden Tide pitcher Lincoln Hoyt gave up only one hit and he struck out 14 Harmony batters.

Elk County Catholic 4, Port Allegany 0 – Matthew Gilmore pitched a three-hit shutout while striking out eight for the Crusaders.

THURSDAY-SOFTBALL

DuBois Central Catholic 7, Cranberry 1 – Rylee Kulbatsky gave up only two hits while she struck out 19 for the Lady Cardinals. At the plate, Kulbatsky was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Punxsutawney 9, Moniteau 3;

Clearfield 7, Bishop Guilfoyle 3;

The Central Clarion at St. Marys game was postponed.

Penn State-DuBois Baseball:

The City of DuBois and Penn State-DuBois baseball team is hosting this year’s USCAA Small College Baseball World Series. There will be a banquet, home run derby, and fireworks Sunday night; and then tournament games will begin Monday morning. Penn State-DuBois is seeded fifth among the 10 teams in this year’s tourney. The Lions are scheduled to face the number four seed, Alabama’s US Sports University, at Showers Field Monday morning starting at 10am.

Heindl Field in DuBois is the host site for the USCAA Small College Softball World Series. Games will be played all next week.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates doubled up on the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday afternoon, 4-2.

The Bucs continue their western road trip in San Francisco tonight. Listen for the Pirates-Giants pregame show tonight at 9:50. The first pitch will be at 10:15pm on Connect FM.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve lost to the Chesapeake Bay Sox last night, 4-3. Game four of the Curve’s six-game series in Maryland is scheduled to begin with the first pitch at 7:05 this evening.
