District 9 Softball Playoffs:

THURSDAY

1A Subregional “Play-in” Game – Meyersdale (D 5) 13, Curwensville 2 – The Lady Tide’s Ava Hainsey had two hits in the game.

PIAA Baseball and Softball Playoffs – Round 1 – Monday:

5A Baseball — The DuBois Beavers will play Montour on Monday at 4:30pm at Showers Field. Listen live on Sunny 106, or watch at Tri-County – dot – TV

1A Baseball – The Crusaders of Elk County Catholic will take on Western Beaver or Serra Catholic in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

5A Softball – The DuBois Lady Beavers will face either Shaler or North Hills.

1A Softball – DuBois Central Catholic will play either Claysburg-Kimmel or Juniata Valley of District 6 on Monday.

2A Softball – Brockway will face either Brentworth or Neshannock in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

4A Softball – Punxsutawney will go up against either Elizabeth Forward or Blackhawk.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates wound up with a four-game series split with the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park. Last night, the Cubs beat the Bucs 7-2.

The Pirates begin a weekend series with Minnesota tonight. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:45. Don’t miss the Pirates-Twins pregame show this evening on Connect FM at 6:20.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve fell to Hartford, 5-4, last night. Altoona faces the Yard Goats again tonight in game four of the six-game Eastern League series in Connecticut. The first pitch this evening is scheduled for 7:10.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

Geno” will stay a Penguin for at least one more year. The Pittsburgh Penguins announced earlier this week they have re-signed Evgeni Malkin to a one-year contract extension worth more than $5-million. The deal runs through the 2026-27 season. Malkin has played all 20 of his NHL seasons with the Pens. He ranks in the top three in Penguins history in the categories of goals, game-winning goals, overtime goals, assists, and games played.
