*Update* – Diesel has been found and is safe.

UNION TOWNSHIP – One man is dead and his dog missing following a commercial vehicle crash on interstate 80 in Union Township Thursday afternoon.

According to police at 3:59pm a Freightliner tractor-trailer struck the rear of another tractor-trailer.

Jefferson County Coroner Greg Furlong says the driver of the Freightliner, 59 year-old Michael Rougier of Rio Rancho New Mexico, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at 4:35pm.

Rougier’s dog, described as a friendly Rottweiler named Diesel, was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and fled into a wooded area near the scene. Officials ask if you find Diesel to call the Coroner’s Office at (814) 648-3632.
