District 10 Little League Softball and Baseball All-Star Playoffs:
Last night, the DuBois Little League major softball all-stars shut down the Brookville all-stars, 18-0. DuBois continues to advance in the winners bracket, and will next be in action on Monday. Tune in for all the live action on Sunny 106. The District 10 Little League All-Star baseball tournaments begin next week.
District 9 Baseball:
Five District 9 baseball players have been selected to play in this Sunday’s Second Annual Pennsylvania Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star game in State College. Both Noah Farrell and Trey Wingard of the DuBois Beavers, Carter Himes of DuBois Central Catholic, and Punxsutawney’s Maddox Hetrick and Nevin Day were chosen to represent the west team.
Pittsburgh Pirates:
The Pittsburgh Pirates jumped all over the A’s last night, 12-4. The Bucs leave California with a series win against the Athletics.
The Bucs are off today. Friday, the Pirates begin a three game weekend series in Colorado. Listen for the Bucs-Rockies pregame show on Connect FM starting at 8:15 tomorrow night. The first pitch of Friday night’s game is scheduled for 8:40.
Altoona Curve:
The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve were tied at five in the seventh inning with Akron last night when the game was suspended due to rain. The game will be completed at 5pm today, to be followed by game three of Altoona’s Eastern League series in Akron.
The Frank Varischetti All-Star Football Game:
The 11th annual Frank Varischetti All-Star Football Game will be played in Brockway on Friday, June 26th. The North team will include 12 players from Brockway, DuBois, Punxsutawney, Ridgway, and St. Marys. A trio of Brookville Raiders will participate with the South team. The all-stars are 2026 graduates representing the 19 District 9 high school football programs. Prior to kickoff at this year’s contest, $24,000 in scholarships will be awarded to select players. The site of the game is Brockway’s Frank Varischetti Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7pm.
