District 9 Baseball and Softball Playoffs:

TUESDAY – SOFTBALL

5A Subregional Championship: DuBois 10, Mifflin County (D 6) 7 – Addison Lilja smacked four hits for the Lady Beavers, including a pair of doubles, and she drove in four runs. Her teammates Abby Kalgren and Elliette Brewer each added three hits. DuBois will play either Shaler or North Hills in the first round of the PIAA playoffs on Monday.

TODAY – SOFTBALL

3A – St. Marys has a Subregional championship game against Hickory of District 10 today.

4A – The Punxsutawney Lady Chucks play in the Subregional Championship game today against District 5 champ Somerset.

PIAA Baseball and Softball Playoffs:

5A Baseball — The DuBois Beavers will take on either Montour or Thomas Jefferson next week.

1A Baseball – The Crusaders of Elk County Catholic will take on Western Beaver or Serra Catholic in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

1A Softball – DuBois Central Catholic will play either Claysburg-Kimmel or Juniata Valley of District 6 on Monday.

2A Softball – Brockway will face either Brentworth or Neshannock when the PIAA playoffs begin next week.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates convincingly beat the Chicago Cubs last night, 12-1 .

The Bucs have now won three games in a row, and five of their last seven games. Tonight, the Pirates host the Cubs again for game three of their four-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40. Tune in for the Pirates pregame show this evening on Connect FM at 6:15.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve lost their series-opener in Connecticut last night, 4-3. Altoona plays the Hartford Yard Goats again tonight with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10.
