CLEARFIELD – Supporters of the Clearfield Regional Police Department are planning a public rally this weekend as debates continue over whether the combined police department could be dissolved.
Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers says that if the department is dissolved, it could mean fewer officers and more reliance on the Pennsylvania State Police, leading to reduced local coverage and longer response times.
“At the end of the day, there are only seven people that can really make this happen,” explained Sayers. “So the people of Clearfield Borough need to reach out to their members of council and tell them, hey, what you’re doing is wrong and you really need to come to the table to make this work.”
Supporters hoping to save the department will hold a rally this Sunday from noon to 4pm at the Grove Stage in the Clearfield Driving Park. Speakers will discuss the future of the department and petitions will be available for you to sign.
