District 9 Baseball and Softball:

FRIDAY-BASEBALL

Punxsutawney 13, Moniteau 0 – Punxsy pitcher Nevin Day recorded his 200th high school strikeout.

SATURDAY-BASEBALL

DuBois City Classic – DuBois 7, DuBois Central Catholic 6 – 9 innings – The Beavers’ Noah Farrell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning to push in the winning run.

SATURDAY-SOFTBALL

DuBois City Classic – DuBois Central Catholic 11, DuBois 8 – Reese Pfingstler hit two home runs, a double, and drove in five for DCC.

Penn State-DuBois Baseball:

The Penn State-DuBois baseball team won two and lost two in the PSUAC tournament this past weekend in DuBois. On Friday, the Lions notched a 9-3 win over Penn State-Scranton. Penn State-DuBois won its first game Saturday, 7-5 over Penn State-Shenango, but fell in its next game, 8-1, to Penn State-Hazleton. The Lions’ loser’s bracket final contest on Sunday went to Penn State-Mont Alto by a score of 9-2.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates capped off a weekend sweep of the Cincinnati Reds Sunday with a 1-0 win. Saturday, the Pirates beat the Reds 17-7, and that followed a 9-1 triumph for the Bucs on Friday.

The Pirates are off today. They begin a six-game road trip in Arizona Tuesday night. The Bucs-Diamondbacks pregame show Tuesday night starts at 9:15 on Connect FM. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40pm.

Altoona Curve:

The Altoona Curve achieved a split of their six-game series with Richmond at PNG Field. On Sunday, Altoona upended Richmond 7-2. The Curve will play their next series in Maryland against the Chesapeake Bay Sox. Game one of the six-game set is Tuesday night at 6:05.
