Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins are still alive in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Pens beat the Flyers in Philly Saturday night, 4-2. There will be a game five in Pittsburgh tonight with Philadelphia leading the series three games to one.

The opening puck drop time tonight is 7pm. Tune in for the Penguins pregame show at 6 on Connect FM.

District 9 Baseball and Softball:

FRIDAY-BASEBALL

Avonworth 4, DuBois 1 – First loss of the year for DuBois. Beavers’ slugger and all-time hit leader Trey Wingard recorded his 100th career hit in the game.

DuBois Central Catholic 7, Bradford 6 – DCC’s Carter Himes hit a game-winning, run-scoring double in the eighth inning; and on the mound he struck out 15 Bradford batters.

Homer Center 11, Brookville 1

Clearfield 3, Central Cambria 2

Williamsburg 14, Curwensville 11

Elk County Catholic 11, St. Marys 2

FRIDAY-SOFTBALL

DuBois 8, Brockway 2 – For DuBois, Theresa McBride had two hits including a double, and she drove in a pair of runs.

DuBois Central Catholic 13, Bradford 0 – Rylee Kulbatsky struck out 18 batters for DCC. One of those Ks was the 800th strikeout of her high school career.

Penn State-DuBois Baseball and Softball:

The Penn State-DuBois baseball team swept four games from Penn State-Beaver in a pair of double-headers Friday and Sunday. The Lions won by scores of 14-1, 9-0, 6-4, and 8-2. Meanwhile, the Penn State-DuBois softball team fell four times in their two double-headers over the weekend. The Lady Lions lost to Penn State-New Kensington, 5-3 and 13-3. They dropped a pair to Penn State-Schuylkill on Sunday, 16-3 and 8-0.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates won two of three games in Milwaukee over the weekend. After a 6-0 win on Friday and a 6-3 triumph Saturday, the Bucs fell to the Brewers in the series finale Sunday, 5-0.

The Bucs open a four-game home series with St. Louis tonight. Game time tonight at PNC Park is 6:40.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ double-A affiliate, Altoona Curve, managed to win three of five games in Harrisburg. On Sunday, the Curve beat the Senators, 5-4. After an off day today, Altoona begins a six-game home series against Richmond.
