Winter Fire Safety

DUBOIS – With cold winter weather driving people indoors and heaters running longer, you are warned to take extra steps to stay safe and prevent house fires and carbon monoxide emergencies.

DuBois Fire Chief Joe Mitchell says that you can take extra precautions to stay safe, including using your heaters properly and keeping flammable items away, and keep your vents clear of snowfall.

“First and foremost, if it’s an electronic device, make sure it’s in a grounded plug,” explained Chief Mitchell. “Do not use an extension cord.”

You can also help first responders by clearing your fire hydrants during heavy snowfall.
