DUBOIS – A newly proposed budget for the unified City of DuBois has cut half a million dollars in spending.
The reductions mostly came from lower insurance costs, vacant positions, travel cuts, and shifting timber revenue to the general fund, lowering the property tax rate to 13 mills.
Council members were divided in this plan, with some arguing the budget could be trimmed further, while others favored keeping the original version.
City management cautioned that this budget is razor thin and may not give the new city a strong financial starting point.
“We’re just trying to get that right so that we can make sure we’re setting them up for good success in the future,“ explained Interim Manager Lisa Hagberg.
The budget passed in a 4-3 vote and now heads for public review with a final vote expected at their February 18th meeting.
