Clearfield County Taxes Going Up

CLEARFIELD- The new year, 2026, looks to be a time of increased taxes all across Clearfield County.

Last week, a 2.5 mill increase was approved for the county tax rate next year, and recent budget proposals have included a 3 mill increase for City of DuBois residents, a 4.5 mill jump in Clearfield Borough, and a 5 mill hike for residents of Sandy Township as consolidation with DuBois is finalized.

Prior to voting on the 2026 county budget, the Clearfield County Commissioners talked about the reasons for a tax increase, and their attempts to keep it as low as possible. Commissioner John Sobel said, I hate raising taxes. They put a tremendous burden on citizens throughout the county.” Sobel added that the budget was reviewed multiple times and that cuts were made wherever possible.

All three commissioners remarked that in the future, they would like to see more interaction with the public when it comes to tax and budget matters.
