BROCKWAY – One day before the Brockway Prom, students experienced a mock DUI influenced crash to experience the horrors of driving while impaired.
Yearly, the school has their seniors experience this mock crash, however, this year things were a little bit different.
Two cars, provided by Auto Undertaker, crashed into each other on scene before student actors were placed into the cars. Police, Fire and Rescue then arrived to take the “drunk driver” into custody, two to the hospital, and one into a body bag, in an experience K-12 Principal Ben Donlin says is a great teaching lesson for kids.
“They can read it in a book, or have someone tell them a story, but going through a simulated event like this really pounds home the narrative of like ‘oh wow this is real life. This can really happen to me. And I gotta think before anything I do,’“ explained Principal Donlin.
He also asks parents to have these difficult discussions with your kids to prevent impaired driving.
