DUBOIS –  A robotics State Qualifier competition was held in DuBois over the weekend, seeing around 40 teams participate.

With a total of 45 groups ranging as far as Pittsburgh, teams were put to the test as they had to create robots using parts only provided by VEX Robotics, to build and compete.

Jennifer Keith, one of the organizers for DuBois’ event, told us how this year’s game was played.

“This year’s game is called high stakes,“ explained Keith. “And the goal is there are these big donut shaped rings that are made up of plastic, and so the students had to come up with some way to intake those rings and put them on these stakes that could wobble and move around. And then they have to either push or drag those stakes into corners of the field to score extra bonus points.”

In the end, the DuBois team The Mad Scientists ranked number one in the skills test and earned the Excellence Award. Another DuBois team, “The Women in Black”, won the Design award for their notebook and interview. Both teams qualified for the State Championship

Franklin Teams “Team Joffrey” and “Rada Rada” won the tournament portion of the challenge.  Other awards include the Innovate award which was given to “Vex-tor” from Cranberry Area and the Judges award given to “Delta” from Fairview High School. You can find all the results here.
