DUBOIS — An update on “DuBois Days,” the event replacing the annual Community Days this summer, was provided at the DuBois City Council meeting Monday.
The City of DuBois has been asked to sponsor the fireworks and sound system for $15,000.
Also, permission was asked from the city to allow free use of the pool and the maintenance building during the event. Permission was also asked to sell alcohol out of the maintenance building as it was during last year’s Community Days.
Event organizers report that many acts and shows have been lined up for DuBois Days, and any excess money raised during the event will be donated to the City of DuBois.
DuBois Public Library Update
The DuBois Public Library is back to a pre-covid level of use and funding.
The library had 3,000 eclipse glasses on hand. All of them were given out or claimed by 9:30 Monday morning.
The DuBois Public Library has been around for 104 years as a public organization. It was founded by the City of DuBois, and is funded by the City and Sandy Township.
The AC units at the library need to be replaced. The units started failing in 2020 , and repairs have been postponed. The Library originally estimated the repairs and replacements of AC units to come to $147,600, but the lowest bid came in between $96,000 and $97,000. The library has also received a Keystone Grant that will match whatever funding received from other sources. The library is asking that the City of DuBois provide $49,000 to make up the rest.
