Theft charges against a Clearfield County Commissioner are withdrawn

CLEARFIELD – A pair of theft charges against newly-elected Clearfield County Commissioner Timothy Winters have been withdrawn.

Just one day after winning a seat on the Board of Commissioners in November, Winters was charged with two misdemeanors when surveillance footage from the Hyde Volunteer Fire Company allegedly showed him pulling an election sign from the ground and taking it with him.

While theft charges against Winters were withdrawn Friday in magisterial district court, a traffic offense of illegal parking was enforced, and the commissioner was ordered to pay a fine.

Following the proceedings, Winters said he was glad the matter had been resolved, and hoped that such “frivolous actions” don’t discourage others from seeking public office.

Winters received the most votes in November’s Clearfield County Commissioner’s race.
